No football coach is on the job at Beatty High School, with preseason workouts about four weeks away.

Hornet athletics director Brian Hayes is still searching, to no avail at the moment.

The Hornets do have a volleyball coach, however. Dale Lerbakken has been named to replace Loy Koeller.

The first football game of the 2010 season is at home Sept. 3 against Tonopah; this one is a non-Southern Nevada Class A non-league matchup, to start at 7 p.m.

On Oct. 22, the Hornets and Muckers clash again at Tonopah; this time, the game counts in the league standings.

In volleyball, the Hornets will play in the Lady Trojans Invitational at Pahrump Valley High School Sept. 3-4 to launch the season.

Beatty is not at home until Sept. 15, when the Hornets face Indian Springs in a league match starting at 5 p.m.

* Tonopah will play its first three games on the road and there will be a home-and-home series with Round Mountain and Beatty in the 2010 high school football season.

The Duffy Otteson-coached Muckers, who have qualified for the Nevada Class A football playoffs for five consecutive years, will open Aug. 27 at Round Mountain. Beatty will host Tonopah Sept. 3 and on Sept. 10, the Muckers are at Big Pine, Calif. All three games will begin at 7 p.m.

Tonopah's home opener will be on a Saturday (Sept. 18) against Lund; kickoff is at 1 p.m.
