Court House Gallery blooms
By GINA B. GOOD
The ongoing construction inside the county court house is hardly noticeable since the Pahrump Arts Council installed the newest in their series of exhibits. Simply called "Flowers," the show definitely lives up to its name, adding brightness and charm to the austere white walls leading to the Justice Courts and clerks in the building's new addition. Bernie Toy's three pieces show flowers in a field, impressions of leaves and vines, and a watercolor that can be interpreted as flowers floating in a pond. LuLu Brymer shows a quiet scene of Spanish moss hanging from trees juxtaposed by a bright teddy bear in a flower bed. She also has an acrylic painting of large roses in a vase. Laurie McCaslin shows red and green blooms and flowers in pots, as well as flowering cactus, which proved a subject that inspired many of the artists in the show. Charlise Butler framed a trio of single, colorful blooms. Lloyd Martin presents a garden scene as well as a large painting of sunflowers against a sky blue background. Dawn Coursen placed a garden spigot among purple blooms and Georgia Christiansen shows a calm trio of different white flowers. Doris Smith shows three refined and graceful scenes. She presents a basket and a bouquet and a dramatic red flower on a dark blue background. Claire Harrison has two very different drawings in the same style. Her flowering cactus and smaller work are both dramatic, showing a masterful use of black. Fritzie Cox shows two drawings and an acrylic painting and Betty Ross has two small jewels depicting a vertical gate and a tall cactus. Sean South has three black-and-white ink drawings. Look closely to see a woman's face used as a vase. Stenmark Toy's watercolor of yellow wild flowers with trees is captivating and her drawing of vines growing in a beam of sunlight brighten up the wall next to Ernie Fuller's eye-catching white cactus flowers in bloom. Eric Easley has two framed flower photos alongside three framed photos by Gary Schneider. Schneider's photos don't say where he took them, but this writer would like to sit among the flowers to watch the waterfall. |
