Katerina T. Anderson

The United States Coast Guard Academy announced that Katerina T. Anderson, of Pahrump, has been recognized for superior academic achievement potential.

Anderson attended New Mexico Military Institute and has accepted an appointment to attend the Coast Guard Academy.

She was sworn in as a member of the Class of 2014, June 28.

The Coast Guard Academy, in New London, Conn., is an accredited college educating future Coast Guard officers and represents the nation's best and brightest students, ready to serve and lead their country.

Less than 400 appointments are offered annually from a pool of over 4,000 applicants.

Cadets receive a full tuition scholarship and monthly stipend for a five-year commitment to the Coast Guard after graduation.

All graduates receive a Bachelor of Science degree and are guaranteed a position of leadership as a commissioned officer.

Anderson is the daughter of Nidia and Martin Anderson, of Pahrump, and granddaughter of Jim and Regena Forrester, of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Francisco and Maria Castro, of Plantation, Fla.

Anderson was a 2009 graduate of Pahrump Valley High School.
