Nevada Treasure RV Resort is continuing its summer entertainment tomorrow night with an evening of Kansas City-style barbecue and Kansas City blues.

Dinner will be first on the agenda, beginning at 5:30 p.m., with a smorgasbord of Kansas City-style ribs, brisket, rib tips, chicken, hot slaw, corn-on-the-cob and whatever else happens to be on the menu.

Resort chef Mark Johnson has been preparing meals there since he was hired by Seibt's Desert Retreat over six years ago.

When the new owners took possession of the property, Johnson stayed on as the executive chef and assistant general manager.

Johnson said he's been a professional chef cooking and managing restaurants all over the United States for 29 years.

The "differences in barbecue," he says, "is all in the sauce. Kansas City sauce is red and thick. It stays on the meat."

He said he will be preparing the brisket and ribs for the smoker today because, "it takes 18 hours to smoke some meats properly."

For those who don't understand hot slaw, Johnson said the dish is served warm and has just a touch of the barbecue sauce added to it.

When dinner ends, the stage will be taken over by one of the most notorious blues players in Vegas.

Glenn Patrik is originally from Kansas City, so he knows the sound from an insider's exposure and he's been playing that sound since he was 8, and getting paid to play since he was 12.

Patrik, now 54, has traveled the United States and the world, playing with various bands and headliners he refers to as his "heroes." He said he's "outlived them all."

"Once I had been in the company of and played with all the idols I had when I was younger, I took everything I'd learned and went out on my own."

It was a good move for Patrik, his CD, "Nuthin' But a Thang!" hit the blues charts in 2009 and reached No. 12 on the Real Blues list of Top 100 Blues CDs, and he was recently named 2010 Male Artist of the Year by listeners of RockWireD.

Patrick noted, "I've been playing the same (music) for 40 years and the fans don't seem to have an age-group. Even the younger kids who get into today's sounds, can wrap around our groove and wonder, 'How does he do that?'"

Patrik will bring his band, Mike Malone, Rusty Hall, Thomas "Freight Train" Walker and Ward Wallace, with him. Each band member has a history of accolades and each has performed with stars in the industry.

Tickets for the evening are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. The barbecue is included and the bar is cash.

Nevada Treasures RV Resort is on Highway 160 North at Leslie Street.
