Weekend roundup
By CHARLENE DEAN
Although the events listed here are just to give additional information, let's see if this writer can get the dates to match the ones related to the same event listed in the entertainment schedule. On tap for this weekend and slightly beyond: * The Farmer's Market is still going strong from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Petrack Park. The items you'll find on display have to either be homemade or home-grown. * Iron Chef Showdown is back this Sunday at Charlie's Place on Bell Vista Road. The "secret ingredient" cook-off starts at 4 p.m. and is followed by live music from 6 to 10 p.m. This Sunday will be the Boltons. The Street Corner Blues Project will play tomorrow night starting at 8 p.m. * Sugar Magnolia, formerly K-7 Lounge, will have its grand opening bash tomorrow starting at 2 p.m. Live entertainment, featuring Dean West, Nye County Starlets, Yukon Jack and Diamond Dan, Desert Knights and the Boltons, will continue until 10 p.m. * Fred's Maverick and Sugar Magnolia will both start karaoke contests with cash prizes this coming week. Fred's Maverick will hold its contest starting at 7 p.m., Wednesday nights, for the next four weeks. Sugar Magnolia will hold its contest starting at 7 p.m., July 16, and continue each Friday, for the next eight weeks. Get in touch with the bars for rules, fees (if any) and prizes. * Saddle West will host an Elvis Convention from 6 to 10 p.m., tonight and from noon until no one will sing, tomorrow in the showroom. Johnny "V" will emcee the event. There will be Elvis impersonators and maybe vendors with merchandise. * The annual Blue Butterfly Coffee House is tomorrow at 6 p.m., in the Nugget Events Center. The theme is a salute to the Armed Forces, so break out the memorabilia, or wear the uniform -- if it still fits -- and party down with music and other entertainment from the 40s, 50s and 60s. You will be benefitting Nathan Adelson Hospice. * Nye Gold Seekers will meet at 7 a.m. at Burger King to take a trip to the claim in Johnnie. Newcomers are welcome. Someone will show you the ropes. Enjoy the weekend. |
