Murder for charity
By CHARLENE DEAN
The Shadow Mountain Community Players will enact an evening of murder starting at 7 p.m., July 22 and 23, at New Hope Fellowship on West Street. The performance will consist of two short plays -- both dealing with murder. One is a comedy and the other a whodunit murder mystery. The first play, "Not My Cup of Tea," is a comedy in which every member of the cast gets murdered. There are only three parts in this one, a domineering old maid who persuades her spinster sister to collaborate in a plot to murder their mother. It proves more twisted than just shells in the shotgun. And pushing her out of the window of the first floor isn't practical and it would be embarrassing to be caught trying to hit your mother over the head with a rolling pin. The only thing to do is to sit down and have a quiet cup of tea, which mother has thoughtfully prepared, and contemplate cookies. The second play, "In Memoriam," was inspired by Agatha Christie's "Ten Little Indians." This fast-paced murder mystery will send a chill down your spine. The play is set in the pre-World War II era on isolated Castle Island, one of the Thousand Islands in upstate New York. Five people gather for a weekend house party which turns into a nightmare as one person after another is first accused of being a murderer and then gets murdered -- each by a different method. The plot thickens with each mysterious death until only two guests remain. The event will be presented as a fundraiser for Path of Hope Food Bank which offers food and other necessities to anyone in need. Admission is $10. For information about the food bank, call 751-1867.
