Academy graduation scheduled for Thursday

"Forged by the dedicated into the brotherhood."

The public is cordially invited to attend the Nye County Sheriff's Office Regional Training Academy's graduation of 10 new police officers at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

The class is the third held in 2004 that graduated from the Pahrump-based academy.

Gregory Arms, Chad Cobb, Lonnie Daniel, Michael R. Dorsen, Daniel J. Dose, James E. Erickson Jr., Robert A. Kingsley III, Thomas D. Klenczar, James C. Scott and Terrill Tinnell will earn the Peace Officers Standardized Training certificates when they graduate, which will be followed by additional field training. Nine of the graduates will be based in Pahrump; Cobb will serve in Tonopah.

The ceremony will begin with the presentation of colors by the sheriff's office Color Guard. Class President Dose will lead the Pledge of Allegiance, and Pastor Ron Trummell will deliver the invocation.

Assistant Sheriff Richard Marshall will welcome graduates, their families and the public, and Sgt. Bob Balding will introduce guests and staff. Marshall will then introduce keynote speaker Ronald Casey.

Sheriff Tony DeMeo will present awards and graduation certificates. Judge Robert Lane will then administer the oath of office to the 10 graduates and Trummell will offer the benediction to close the ceremony.

The academy staff includes DeMeo, Marshall, Balding, Sgt. Jack Hennigan, and TAC officers Mark Dahlgren and Michael Horn. The invitation reads: "A special thank you to all of the academy instructors and mentors who shared their time and expertise with the class. Without you, our success would not have been possible."
